LSU Theatre Lab Season Presents Outworks 2013 Festival April 30-May 5

BATON ROUGE – LSU Theatre will present its annual Outworks Festival – an evening of six new, previously unproduced one-act plays with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer themes – April 30-May 5. All performances will be held in the Studio Theatre, located in the Music & Dramatic Arts Building on Dalrymple Drive.

Coordinated by Nichole Ingalsbe and Macy Jones, this exciting festival – now in its eighth year – has steadily grown and become a major opportunity for emerging playwrights to showcase their work.

With more than 200 submissions annually, competition is tremendous for the productions selected for performance. Six plays are chosen from hundreds of submissions around the country, and most of the works receive their world premiere at the festival. Outworks 2013 is directed, designed, performed and produced entirely by LSU students.

Productions in this year’s festival include:

  • “Pioneer Women: The Wild Boar,” directed by Evleen Nasir and written by Marsha Lee Sheiness;
  • “I Do Without You,” directed by Molly Rivers and written by Caralie Chrisco;
  • “July 4, 1969,” directed by Laurel McGehee and written by Hal Corley;
  • “The Deconstruction of Lee and Darrell,” directed by Michael Mentz and written by Thomas J. Misuraca;
  • “The Slope,” directed by Nichole Ingalsbe and written by Angelo Parra; and
  • “The Blue Djinn,” directed by Macy Jones and written by Tom Rowan.

Performances during the Outworks 2013 festival will be held from April 30-May 5 at 7:30 p.m. each evening, with a matinee performance on May 5 at 2 p.m.

Outworks performances contain mature language and situations that are not appropriate for young viewers.

Tickets for Outworks 2013 are $10 and can only be purchased at the door.

Outworks 2013 is supported by the LSU Performing Arts Fee.
