LSU to Hold Silent Disco on April 12

BATON ROUGE – On Friday, April 12, LSU will host Silent Disco, a dance party in which event patrons decide what music is playing. At the event, two sets of two VIP tickets will be given away to Groovin’ on the Grounds, which will be held the following day, Saturday, April 13. Silent Disco is programming of the Student Activities Board at LSU, a student organization within LSU Campus Life.

The party will begin at 9 p.m. and run through 1 a.m. on the LSU Parade Grounds. The event is free, but admittance will only be granted to LSU students who show a valid LSU student ID and to one guest of each student who presents valid ID.

Rather than using the traditional speaker systems of clubs today, Silent Disco uses special wireless headphones that the attendees wear, giving the effect that everyone is dancing to silence. Beyond giving event patrons access to a number of songs and genres at once, watching this unique experience is entertainment in itself.

The next day, LSU will host Groovin’ on the Grounds, an annual free concert held on the LSU Parade Grounds. This year’s concert features Lupe Fiasco, Grace Potter, YelaWolf, and local band Levee Days. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Groovin’ on the Grounds is sponsored by LSU Student Government and is coordinated by the SG Students on Target committee.

Media outlets who wish to attend either Silent Disco or Groovin’ on the Grounds should obtain media credentials by contacting Aaron Looney in the LSU Office of Communications & University Relations at 225-578-3871 or by noon on Thursday, April 11. Credentials will be available for pickup at the Office of Communications & University Relations building, located at 3960 West Lakeshore Dr., between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.

The mission of LSU Campus Life is to enhance student learning through innovative initiatives focused on involvement, leadership, and service that enrich the LSU experience. As reflected by the goals of both Campus Life and Student Government, Groovin’ on the Grounds and Silent Disco are alcohol free. To learn more, visit
