BATON ROUGE – LSU University Recreation, or UREC, will hold its third annual golf
tournament, presented by Grace & Hebert Architects and 360 Architecture, on Saturday,
March 23, at the Oaks at Sherwood Golf Course. The four-person scramble tournament
will have a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m.
Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the UREC Development Fund at the LSU
Foundation that benefits the more than 175 students employed by UREC. This fund provides
financial assistance for student employees, allowing them to attend regional and national
conferences and workshops, obtain advanced certifications and training, and receive
scholarships for books and studies.
"Not only was I able to gain experience in event management and the planning process
that went into the UREC Open, but the proceeds allowed me the opportunity to attend
the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association, or NIRSA, annual conference
in Tampa, Fla., which allowed me to successfully obtain a graduate assistantship,"
said Megan Williams, current graduate assistant of sport clubs at Towson University
and former UREC employee.
The tournament is open to the community, and participants may register at the UREC
Student Recreation Center through March 15. Registration fees for the tournament are
$75 for LSU students and $85 for LSU faculty/staff and community. Registration includes
greens fees, cart rental, dinner, contests and door prizes.
