BATON ROUGE – The annual Friends of the LSU Libraries’ 2013 Book Bazaar will be held on Feb. 28 through March 2 at the 4-H Mini-Farm and Nelson Memorial Buildings at LSU. Hours of operation for the event will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, and Friday, March 1, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 2.

This year’s sale will have more than 68,000 books, as well as an ample collection of CDs, DVDs, sheet music and vinyl record albums. Admission is free. Plenty of parking is available.

The 2013 Book Bazaar is dedicated to the memory of two vital members of the Book Barn: Patricia Boyet Millican, one of seven founding members of the Friends of the LSU Libraries and co-treasurer of countless Book Bazaars, and Zelda Klein Long, long-time committee member and dedicated Book Barn volunteer. Long is best known for her work at the art table. The Friends of the LSU Libraries will miss their steady presence, hard work and words of wisdom at this year’s sale.

The 2013 Book Bazaar will offer books in dozens of categories, from contemporary fiction and non-fiction to rare and collectible books, all at a fraction of the retail price. Of special interest at this year’s sale is the new Hardback Fiction Annex located in the Nelson Memorial Building. With more than 600 square feet of added space, the Hardback Fiction Annex will be the place to find near-new hardback fiction at bargain prices.

Other items of note include a very special collection of Southern fiction; more than 4,000 history books including Southern, Civil War and military history; 6,000 children’s books; 1,700 cookbooks; many beautiful large-format art books; 2,000 science fiction books; and more than 1,000 vinyl record albums. For mystery and suspense lovers, there will be more than 6,000 titles to choose from. There will also be a large number of LSU Gumbo yearbooks available for sale, as well as a selection of titles from the LSU Press.

Additionally there will be plenty items of interest at the Collectors table, including a bound set of LSU Reveilles from 1966-70 (4 volumes) and a Civil War book collection in wonderful condition. Not to be missed, the Special Collections table boasts more than 400 reference books related to Fish, Snakes, Birds and the like.

Please be advised that the regular parking location east of the Nelson Memorial Building may not be available due to ongoing construction. Free parking for all customers and volunteers will be available in the Zone 1 Commuter parking lot – bordered by Highland Road on the west, South Stadium Drive on the north and Parker Coliseum on the south.

Last year, the Friends of the LSU Libraries’ Book Bazaar raised $72,000 for the Friends of the LSU Libraries’ endowment fund. Over the last 36 years, the Friends of the LSU Libraries have raised more than $1.5 million for that endowment fund. Proceeds from the endowment are used by the LSU Libraries to fund projects wherever the need is greatest.

The Friends of the LSU Libraries would like to acknowledge the support they receive from Kean’s Fine Dry Cleaning. During the summer and fall months, Kean’s assists in collecting books by providing bins in many of their area stores. Throughout the year the Friends of the LSU Libraries also accept books, CDs, DVDs and vinyl record albums at the Book Barn, located at 3355 River Road. Donors are encouraged to call 225-578-5925 to arrange for a drop-off time. Although it’s too late to make a book donation for this sale, book collection for the 2014 Book Bazaar will begin on Monday, April 1, at the Book Barn location.
