BATON ROUGE – In the South, tailgating is a time-honored tradition. From the food and drinks to the style and traditions, nobody does tailgating quite like Southerners. LSU was recently selected among the top 20 universities vying for the title of “The South’s Best Tailgate” by Saturday, Nov. 10.
The editors at Southern Living magazine huddled together to post a preseason roster of the top 20 Southern schools with the greatest pregame celebrations, which are featured in the September issue, which hit newsstands on Friday, Aug. 24. But it’s the readers and fans that will ultimately determine the school that hosts “The South’s Best Tailgate.”
LSU is calling on all its fans to rally around the Tigers and vote daily until Monday, Oct. 1, at southernliving.com/tailgate or via smartphone on the complimentary Digimarc Discover app at www.digimarc.com/discover/the-digimarc-discover-app and scanning the corresponding text. One vote per day is counted toward the final tally. Votes placed on Saturdays count twice toward the final tally. Vote daily for a chance to win $2,500 toward an ultimate tailgate.
Southern Living chose the roster of universities vying for “The South’s Best Tailgate” based on the following criteria:
"Tailgating combines two of the South's greatest loves: food and football. No one on earth celebrates game day like we do: it's a cocktail party, family reunion and fashion show all in one,” said Southern Living Editor Lindsay Bierman.
In describing LSU’s tailgating atmosphere, Southern Living said the university “enlists
RVs and crawfish boils to cook up a massive tailgate.” Other universities vying for
the title include SEC rivals Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi
State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas A&M; Clemson; Grambling State;
Hampden-Sydney College; Howard University; McDaniel College; Oklahoma; Southern Methodist;
Texas and Virginia.
