BATON ROUGE – The LSU Wind Ensemble will begin its fall 2012 season with a concert on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the LSU Union Theater.
The program highlights two significant pieces for wind band as well as an exciting percussion concerto, as the LSU Wind Ensemble joins forces with featured artist LSU Associate Professor of Percussion Brett William Dietz in an exhilarating performance of Joseph Schwantner’s “Concerto for Percussion.” Written in 1994, the piece uses nearly every percussion instrument.
The concert also will include wind band pieces by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Percy Grainger, the latter’s “Lincolnshire Posy” having revolutionized wind band music in 1937. The LSU Wind Ensemble will celebrate the work’s 75th anniversary, while the music of Dmitri Shostakovich will round out an exciting opening concert.
General admission tickets are $20, LSU faculty, staff and senior $17 and $12 for students with I.D. For tickets, contact the LSU Student Union Box office at 225-578-5128 or visit http://music.lsu.edu.
