Kalmbach has been the managing editor of The Advocate since 2011. He started his career in journalism in 1988 as an intern with the State-Times, the city's afternoon newspaper, and went on to work as a reporter and editor for The Advocate. In 2004, he became managing editor at the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, then returned to The Advocate in mid-2005. Kalmbach helped lead the news coverage of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. He has a bachelor’s degree from Davidson College in Davidson, NC. and a master’s degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Il.
