In 2003, the U.S. government created the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database in which all international students and exchange visitors must be registered. You must pay the I-901 SEVIS fee, which is used to administer and maintain this system, before you go to your visa interview at a U.S. Consulate or Embassy.
Note: The SEVIS fee is not the same as the visa application fee.
How to pay
There are a few options that you have to pay the I-901 SEVIS fee:
- Pay online at fmjfee.com with a credit or debit card.
- Use Western Union Quick Pay™.
- Use a check or a money order, which must be drawn on a U.S. bank.
