International Education Week 2019

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education dedicated to celebrating international education and exchange worldwide. Many universities and educational institutions across the United States take part in the week-long event, hosting a variety of programs and activities that highlight and foster intercultural engagement. This year International Education Week was held from November 18 to 22. Multiple departments and colleges across LSU took part in this year's festivities celebrating the programs, activities, research, and people that make LSU fierce for international engagement.

On Wednesday, November 20 the Office of International Programs hosted the 6th Annual International Research Fair, celebrating the theme: Diversity, Collaboration, and Engagement. The International Research Fair is a forum for visiting scholars at LSU to showcase their research and engage with colleagues and the LSU community. This year featured 11 presentations on a variety of topics featuring scholars in the fields of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences,  Engineering, Biological Sciences, Graphic Design, Chemistry, Astrophysics, and more. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Marlon A. Brevé-Reyes, an LSU alum, who currently serves as the Rector (Academic President) of Universidad Tecnologica Centroamericana (UNITEC) in Honduras. At the fair, the Exchange Visitors Programming Committee presented the first Host Faculty of the Year award, to recognize a faculty member who has not only completed outstanding research, but has been active in assisting visiting scholars at LSU. Dr. Huiming Bao, the first recipient of the award, is a professor in the Department of Geology and Geophysics. His research focuses on the early earth and its atmosphere, major geological events throughout the earth’s history, volcanic sulfur emission and subsequent atmospheric oxidation and deposition.

Academic Programs Abroad in collaboration with LSU Global, hosted International Game Night on the evening of November 20. Domestic and international students alike were invited to play and learn about games from different cultures around the world.

On Thursday, November 21 the Office of International Programs hosted International Dialogue, a panel discussion on internationalization, international travel, and grant opportunities. Speakers discussed projects, experiences, and funding to Costa Rica, France, Kenya, Honduras, Panama, Poland, and Spain.

Additional events were hosted during the week by LSU AgCenter Global Network, LSU Global, and LSU Student Government Diversity Department. The Office of International Programs is grateful for the collaborations across campus to host another year of successful events and looks forward to planning more for International Education Week 2020.
