I joined the department as an Associate Professor in 2007 after serving as an Assistant Professor at Mississippi State University from 2001-2007.  My primary research interests include social inequality, demography, and applied sociology.  During my career I have developed a research agenda that examines the link between socioeconomic conditions and demographic outcomes within U.S. communities.  My research projects are designed to inform both academic and policy related audiences.  In addition, I have also conducted a variety of program evaluation and assessment studies for government and nonprofit organizations.  Since 2001, I have received 1.8 million dollars in extramural funding for my research program from nationally competitive sources (National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Agriculture), cooperative agreements with federal agencies (Minerals and Management Service), and state government (Louisiana Economic Development and Division of Administration).  This work has  resulted in 20 peer reviewed manuscripts in internationally prominent social science journals (such as American Sociological Review and the American Journal of Public Health) and received coverage from  national, statewide, and local media outlets (such as Time Magazine, USA Today, MSNBC, and The Advocate).  In 2009, I was named a LSU Rainmaker. I am currently working as Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
