The Religious Studies faculty at Louisiana State University is committed to the education of students and the production of cutting-edge research in the study of religion. We are proud to be a part of the LSU College of Humanities and Social Sciences. We offer an undergraduate major and minor in Religious Studies and an M.A. in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Religious Studies. We also teach thousands of students every year in our many general education and elective courses. Our eleven faculty members are vibrant educators and active contributors to the academic field of Religious Studies. We can't wait to see you in the classroom!

The Department regrets to announce that John H. Whittaker, professor emeritus of Philosophy and Religious Studies, passed away on July 26, 2019. During his twenty-eight years at LSU, Prof. Whittaker served as director of the Religious Studies Program (1980-1994) and as chair of the Department (2003-2006). He was an outstanding scholar in the philosophy of religion and a beloved teacher of religion courses. Memorial service: Saturday, August 10, 12 p.m., St. Alban’s Chapel on Dalrymple Drive.
