Biography 

Dr. Marquia Whitehead is a native of Franklin, Louisiana. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication, with a minor in Marketing, from Nicholls State University; a Master of Arts Degree in English from Northwestern State University; and, a Doctorate in Education, concentration in Higher Education, as well as a certification in Professional Writing, from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Her areas of study include diversity, women’s studies, writing, linguistics, literacy in disenfranchised communities, and minority studies. Dr. Whitehead’s background consists of higher education instruction, ACT and English tutoring, mental health counseling, and various aspects of writing. She has presented at several conferences, as well as motivational speaking, professional development, and blogging. Her plans are to continue to study in her specific areas of expertise, as well as researching other areas of concern in education and other facets in society. Dr. Whitehead is extremely excited to be a part of Louisiana State University’s English Department!
