Spring Fling Volunteer Opportunities

 

We need your help! This year’s Spring Fling plant sale will be on April 17 (members-only) and April 20-21 (public sale). We are looking for volunteers to assist with an array of activities prior to the sale, during the sale, and immediately following the sale. 

Volunteer activities are listed below and the sign up link is in the right-hand column. As soon as we know when the plants will arrive, we will circulate sign up sheets for Plant Unloading and Plant Watering.

Please consider volunteering for one or more tasks. We appreciate your expertise and help! 

Plant Unloading (4-6 weeks before the sale):

  • Plant Experts: Identify the plants that are delivered.
  • Inventory Trackers: Using invoices, ensure all plants paid for were delivered. Indicate that a cart load is complete and can be moved.
  • Plant Tag Distributors: Provide plant ID signs and sales tags to each cart of plants.
  • Plant Movers: Move plants with tags and ID signs to their spot in the nursery.
  • Plant Taggers: Tag plants that have been delivered to their spot in the nursery.

Plant Watering (4-6 weeks prior to sale until sale, daily): 

  • Make sure that the plants are well watered, and pots are upright after wind events. Irrigation runs in the morning, but additional watering is needed to soak the roots.

Plant Sale Set Up (April 16, prior to member-only sale): 

  • Set up tents, hang banners, install signs, etc.

Plant Sale (April 17, 20-21):

  • Plant Experts: Provide information on the plants for sale and advise customers on selections for specific conditions.
  • Tally Helpers: Help customers fill out the tally sheet.
  • Cashiers: Check membership status, calculate purchase price, and collect payments.
  • Wagon Helpers (weekend only): Assist youth volunteers and help customers bring the plants to their cars and return carts to Hilltop.
  • Yarden Sale: Talk with customers, assist with sales, collect payments.
  • Gift shop: Talk with customers, assist with sales, collect payments.
  • Children’s Activity Tent (weekend only): Assist youth volunteers and lead the kids through activities/ crafts.
  • Floater: Assist volunteers and staff with various tasks, as needed. 
  • Traffic Control/ Security: Direct traffic, manage vehicular flow into site and assist with security where needed. 
  • Greeter/ Wayfinding (weekend only): Greet visitors and directs visitors to the various event offerings.             

Take Down (April 21):

  •  Work with staff and other volunteers to take down tents, remove banners, remove signs, etc.

Volunteer After Party Set Up and Take Down (April 21): 

  •  Plan the volunteer and staff after party; coordinate pick up of food and beverages; coordinate party set up and take down.
