Fall Lecture - Achieving Our Democracy

On Monday, November 25th, Dr. Sean Illing presented the Fall 2019 Lecture on "Achieving Our Democracy: The Challenge of Liberalism in the Digital Age." Dr. Illing is an LSU alum and current journalist at Vox. Dr. Illing began his visit by meeting with graduate students from Political Science and Mass Communications to discuss his time as a PhD student at LSU and his career path to becoming a journalist. He presented fascinating insights into the intersections between academia and journalism and his personal experiences as a journalist at Vox.

Later in the day, over 80 students, staff, and faculty attended Dr. Illing's lecture at Hill Memorial Library. He presented on the threat that new forms of digital communication pose to democracy and liberalism. The audience was engaged and filled with questions about the state of our democracy and the role and responsibility of journalism and digital communication.
