Her poster, titled “Community Paramedics’ Knowledge and Perception of Frequent ED Use(r),” discusses part of her dissertation research on a holistic evaluation of a community paramedicine program run by East Baton Rouge Parish Emergency Medical Services. In short, Adio’s research finds that providing adequate community health training to paramedics may reduce healthcare waste and unnecessary emergency department visits, thereby lessening strain on overcrowded EDs.

Conference attendees voted on the best poster out of all submissions—from students, professionals and academics—to determine the People’s Choice Award.

The Society for Health Systems, which is part of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, sponsored the HSPI Conference.
