Ding Published in Premier Academic Journal

Kunlun Ding in labBATON ROUGE, LA – LSU Chemical Engineering Assistant Professor Kunlun Ding recently served as the lead author for a paper published in Science Magazine, which is considered to be the premier journal in the chemical engineering field. According to LSU Cain Department of Chemical Engineering Chair and Professor John Flake, Ding is the only LSU ChE faculty member to have his or her work appear in the publication as a lead author.

“Our faculty have published in this journal before, mostly as co-authors, but this is the first time I have known where one of our faculty members was the corresponding author,” Flake said. “This is very impressive.”

Ding’s article focuses on bimetallic nanoparticles that are broadly used in important processes, such as reforming and selective hydrogenation.

“In order to improve the catalytic performance of bimetallic catalysts, we need to precisely control the particle size and the degree of alloying,” Ding said. “Neither of them is an easy task. Our work addressed both issues with a simple yet robust synthesis strategy.”

Ding, who has been a professor at LSU since 2016, worked with six other researchers on the project, with the majority of the research taking place at LSU.

“We are extremely excited about this work,” Ding said. “We also expect to have more exciting work done in the near future.”
