The chapter was awarded second and third place in the international PhD student and bachelor student paper competitions, respectively. Renato Coutinho represented LSU SPE in the PhD competition and Brennan Flores was the representative in the bachelor-level competition.

In the PetroBowl—a game show-like competition where students are challenged with facts and figures and must perform quantitative petroleum engineering computations in a pressure environment—the team finished second, beating the University of Texas at Austin in the semifinals but losing to a team from Mexico in the finals.

Finally, the group earned the Outstanding Student Chapter Award, which recognizes the hard work and involvement over the last year by its officers and members.

ATCE is SPE’s annual meeting of members and features groundbreaking papers and special technical events designed to accelerate the application of innovations in every technical discipline. Attendees come from around the world to keep up with the latest technologies, industry best practices and new product launches.
