Dow Chemical Supports LSU's College of Engineering through Annual Gift

The Dow Chemical Company, through its charitable foundation, has awarded $18,000 to student initiatives and the purchase of laboratory equipment for the LSU College of Engineering.

Dow’s gift to the College of Engineering will support student advancement within the following areas:

  • $4,000 to enhance the Cain Department of Chemical Engineering laboratory equipment
  • $2,000 to support incoming freshmen in the Encounter Engineering bridge camp 
  • $2,000 awarded to the Recruitment into Engineering of High Ability Multi-Cultural Students (REHAMS) 
  • $2,000 granted to the LSU Formula SAE race car team
  • $2,000 granted to the LSU Mini Baja race car team
  • $1,000 presented to American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) student chapter
  • $1,000 presented to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) student chapter
  • $500 presented to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) student chapter
  • $500 to enhance laboratory equipment in the Division of Electrical & Computer Engineering
  • $500 each awarded to the LSU student chapters of National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), and Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

“As a top employer of our students, Dow’s continued support augments the attributes of the LSU Engineer by providing experiential opportunities for our students, be it through their support of the Chemical Engineering Unit Operations lab, the new Student Leadership Center or through their Aid to Education funding,” said Rick Koubek, Dean and Bert S. Turner Chair in Engineering. “Cumulatively, Dow’s lifetime contributions total over $3 million to LSU's College of Engineering in support of our students and faculty. This investment signifies the value of our partnership and our mutual desire to produce the best engineers for Louisiana.”

The total gift presented by Dow to the LSU Foundation totaled $20,000 to support LSU’s College of Engineering and the LSU Olinde Career Center.
