Congratulations to Dr. Hany Hassan, Associate Professor in LSU's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, on receiving a 2026 AASHTO High Value Research Award! Hassan led the LTRC study developing statewide guidelines to improve pedestrian safety on Louisiana's high-speed arterials, and the team has been invited to present its findings at the 2027 Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

On September 9th, LSU's chapters of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and Society of Women Engineers (SWE) partnered with NSBE Baton Rouge, USG Corporation, ExxonMobil, and the LSU Career Center on an interactive career fair prep event, helping engineering students sharpen their skills ahead of the career fair.

Congratulations to Dr. Bijaya Karki on 25 years of service to LSU's Division of Computer Science & Engineering! Over more than two decades — including 13 years as Division Chair — his research in high-performance computing and computational materials science has earned an NSF CAREER Award, the LSU Rainmaker Award, and support from NASA and other federal agencies.

This summer, Dr. Kazemian's research lab in the Bert S. Turner Department of Construction Management hosted high school student Laila El Moselhy, who relocated from New York to Baton Rouge to gain hands-on experience in robotic 3D printing. Laila helped develop an improved software workflow linking 3D design to robotic printing that will support future large-scale, more intricate 3D-printing experiments, and toured labs across the College of Engineering along the way.

Congratulations to LSU ECE Assistant Professor Dr. Xugui Zhou on receiving a National Science Foundation (NSF) RII EPSCoR Research Fellows Award! This award supports Dr. Zhou’s research to advance vehicle safety in collaboration with researchers at UCLA. His project focuses on detecting and preventing hidden system failures in advanced vehicle technologies before they lead to roadway accidents.

Students Seun Adeniran, Ehsan Shourangiz, Wajid A. Zahid, and Professor Yanyu Wang recently conducted fieldwork at the LSU Rural Life Museum. Using a LiDAR scanner to collect 3D data, and with a grant from Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, the goal is to create digital twins that can help preserve, maintain, and potentially rebuild these structures if they are damaged by severe weather such as windstorms or hurricanes.

Ph.D. students Cameron Bachar and Somtochukwu Anyaorah are showcasing department-led advances in materials, catalysis, and environmental engineering at the American Chemical Society (ACS) Fall Meeting in Chicago. Director of Graduate Studies Kevin McPeak is also representing the department and connecting with prospective students interested in pursuing fully funded doctoral research opportunities.
