Commission Proposes Rule Change to Allow Processing of Pending Oyster Lease Applications
Posted: 3/2/07

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission today approved a Notice of Intent that would allow the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to process pending oyster lease applications.

The commission established a moratorium on the issuance of oyster leases for waterbottoms not under lease and on the taking of lease applications on March 7, 2002.

This rule, if it is approved, would allow applications that were pending on March 7, 2002 to be processed. There are 437 pending applications encompassing approximately 30,000 acres on file. The commission will consider public comment on the notice of intent prior to the promulgation of the final rule.

Interested parties may submit written comments relative to the notice of intent to: Heather Warner-Finley, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, P.O. Box 98000, Baton Rouge, LA 70898-9000 prior to Thursday, May 3, 2007.
