Quercus shumardii

Shumard Oak

Family:  Fagaceae
Zone:  5-9                               Average Size:  50’H x 40’W

-Simple leaf, 7-9 uniform lobes broadest at apex with bristle tips, upper surface semi glossy.
-Medium brown acorn with dark stripes

Note:  One of the most outstanding oaks for landscape use.  The Shumard Oak makes an excellent shade tree with fall color in red, orange and yellow.  Performs best in well-drained soils.  In sites with poorly drained soils, Nuttall Oak (Quercus nuttallii) may be a better choice.
