Thornton Wilder’s minimalist 1938 Pulitzer Prize winning play takes on new relevance in this updated interpretation. Join us in Grover’s Corners as we watch two families grow, change, and weather life’s ultimate transition together. LSU LAB Season

Wakey, Wakey

by Wil Eno
Directed by Noah Smith

September 25-30, 2018 in the Studio Theatre

Eno's new comedy asks some thought-provoking (if a bit vague) questions: What are we here for? Is time a friend or an enemy? Do we all eventually end up in the same place, but take different routes to get there? This play challenges the notion of what really matters and recognizes the importance of life's simple pleasures. (All of which might sound dreary, but there's a chance this will be a really good experience.)

Dreams and Stains

Written and Directed by Sara Christian

October 23-28, 2018 in the Studio Theatre

Sawny and Sheena have been living successfully in a cave off the cliffs of western Scotland for years now. What started out as a place of refuge has turned into a home whereas the only means of surviving is praying on unsuspecting travelers passing through. Bean Nighe and Boduch are two demons who survive of the death and life destruction acted out by the cave dwellers. One day a Traveler stumbles upon the cave and has the ability to see both Bean Nighe and Boduch, an experience they’ve never had before. In fear of Sawny and Sheena’s life, the demons try to get rid of the Traveler before the cave dwellers see him in fear his body will taint Sawny and Sheena with his innocence.

Sideman

by Warren Leight
Directed by Mike DiSalvo

February 5-10, 2019 in the Studio Theatre

Lauded by Peter Marks of The New York Times as "powerfully unsettling…an enormously moving play," Side Man is the comic and tender story of Clifford, a young man who looks back on his family life; prior to leaving home, Clifford reconciles the role that he has long played as parent to his parents. Smoothly gliding between present and past, the play tells the story of a time before the Beatles and Elvis, when jazzmen were heroic like ballplayers and there was no shortage of Saturday-night gigs. Side Man is both a tribute to the men whose lives were their music and a sober look at a family drama left in the wake of that passion.

Directed by Rick Holden

September 19-30, 2018 in the Shaver Theatre

15-year-old Christopher has an extraordinary brain: He is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. Now it is 7 minutes after midnight, and Christopher stands beside his neighbor’s dead dog, Wellington, who has been speared with a garden fork. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington, and he carefully records each fact of the crime. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world. This Tony Award winning show is a beautiful, heartfelt ride you won't want to miss.
