Simon Holoweiko Joins LSU, Band Department Expands
The LSU School of Music and LSU Department of Bands are pleased to announce that Simon Holoweiko will join the faculty as Associate Director of Bands, beginning Fall 2020.
Following an undergraduate degree at Michigan State University (MSU), groundbreaking success in school music teaching in the state of Florida, and a master’s degree in wind conducting from Columbus State University, Holoweiko catapulted himself into the ranks of promising young conductor/leader with an unusually effective interim year (2017-2018) as Assistant Director of Bands and Associate Director of the Spartan Marching Band. Holoweiko brings exceptional musicianship and vision to LSU’s band department, to LSU’s student musicians, and to the large-scale band community.
The Department of Bands, with the support of LSU Athletics, will reorganize and expand to better address the musical demands of a nationally recognized athletic program. Kelvin Jones, who demonstrated outstanding skill in leading Tiger Band through LSU’s recent championship season, has been named Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Tiger Band. Jones will continue to be engaged as an ambassador for the University at the celebrated Tiger Band entry point. Cliff Croomes will assume the roles of Assistant Director of Tiger Band and Director of Bengal Brass.
Under the leadership of Director of Bands Damon Talley, four talented band directors working together in all aspects of the program signify a bright future for the LSU Bands and the Golden Band from Tigerland.
