Established in 1971, the LSU Tiger Band Colorguard is comprised of approximately 30 individuals out of the 325-member Tiger Marching Band. This line is chosen by a special audition in the spring of each year. Membership is open to all qualified students who are on campus, entering freshmen, or transfer students. Students (including transfer students) must have a 2.0 grade point average in order to audition for the line. Previous colorguard experience is required. The LSU Colorguard performs with the Tiger Band at all LSU home and select away football games.
Clinics & Auditions
Clinics with the LSU Colorguard are free and open to any incoming student interested in being part of the organization. These are optional but highly encouraged, especially for new members who have not auditioned for the ensemble previously. In each clinic, you will learn the components required for the audition from the current LSU Colorguard captains and advisor. The clinics take place in the Tiger Band Hall located on Aster Street, west of Highland Rd.
Auditions will consist of:
- Fundamentals of spinning and tossing flag
- Basic dance elements
- Learning and performing the audition routine
- Performance of an individual routine with your own original choreography:
- Must be 1:15-1:30 in length with music of your choice
- Must consist of BOTH dance and flag choreography but be majority flag work
Flags and poles will be provided by LSU for the audition. You may use your own equipment for your original routine, but the remainder of the audition must be performed with LSU's flags. All applicants must bring with them an LSU ID or LSU acceptance letter.
