SLIS Invites Applications for Two Faculty Positions

Patsy H. Perritt Professor in Youth Services

SLIS is pleased to announce the availability of the Patsy H. Perritt Professor in Youth Services. This new position is funded through an endowment from Richard Peck, the renowned young adult author. Mr. Peck had a special and enduring friendship with Patsy H. Perritt (Emeritus) and the entire School. He was appointed as an Adjunct Professor in the School in 1996 and taught courses until 2010.

The Perritt Professor will have teaching and research responsibilities in the following areas: youth information behavior; multiliteracies; and library and information programs and services for children and youth with an emphasis on information justice and outreach to underrepresented and underserved communities.

This is a nine-month position. The teaching load is two courses per semester with opportunities for summer teaching. 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Perritt Professor will also receive an annual salary supplement and access to a generous support fund for research, travel, student support, and/or other allowable expenses.

Required Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Library & Information Science or an allied field. Evidence of excellence in teaching and scholarship. A minimum of ten years of higher education experience (for candidates applying at Professor rank); a minimum of seven years of higher education experience (for candidates applying at Associate Professor rank).

Preferred Qualifications: MLIS or equivalent and Ph.D. in Library & Information Science or an allied field. Demonstrated proficiency in teaching asynchronous online courses at the graduate level.

Tenure-Track Position: Assistant Professor

SLIS invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor from candidates with a demonstrated potential for research and teaching in one or more of the following areas : 

·        Health information (including but not limited to consumer and public health and/or health informatics) with a focus on health justice

·        Informatics, specifically with respect to information justice

·        School librarianship with a focus on information literacy instruction, specifically with respect to information justice

This is a nine-month position. The teaching load is two courses per semester with opportunities for summer teaching. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: Engage in scholarly research in the appropriate area leading to publication in peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Seek appropriate grant funding for such research. Develop and teach electives in the appropriate area. Teach one or more core courses for the MLIS and other courses as assigned. Advise and mentor students. Actively assist with student recruitment and participate in service activities pertaining to the mission of the School, the College, and the University.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Library & Information Science or an allied field. Demonstrated potential for excellence in research and publication. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with current SLIS faculty.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated success in acquiring research grants. Experience teaching online asynchronous courses at the graduate level.
