Thank you for visiting the Leadership Development Institute’s website. The LDI is housed within the College of Human Science & Education’s School of Leadership & Human Resource Development (SLHRD).
Through innovative discovery, curricula, programs, and strategic partnerships with industry, the LDI provides an experiential, science-based focus on developing sustainable and effective leaders for Louisiana and the nation.
As we embark on LSU’s Strategic Plan 2025, the role of LDI becomes even more imperative. The LDI links LSU’s expertise in leadership development with the critical need for strong leaders to grow our economy, communities and organizations.
LSU’s Leadership Development Institute is committed to the development of leadership skills and characteristics that are key to our graduates living lives of impact. To that end, the LDI approaches leadership as a learned skill that all students have the potential to develop, irrespective of their area of study or the context in which their leadership will be enacted. In addition to leadership skills, the LDI emphasizes cultural and global diversity and inclusion so that students develop the capacity to be adaptive and effective wherever they find leadership challenges.
Closer to home, leadership is a critical need in Louisiana, and across our nation. In the next two decades, 78 million baby boomers will retire and many of them are in leadership positions. There will not be adequate numbers of younger leaders to take their place, a fact that points to the critical need for leadership development. The need for effective leadership in state government, education, health care, business and industry, and local communities across the state is critical to solving the complex human, social, and information issues facing not just our state but the world.
In order for Louisiana to positively flourish, we critically need competent and enlightened leaders that can build communities and organizations that are productive, responsive, and resilient.
