Baton Rouge - Recent Master of Science in Human Resource Development degree recipient Catherine "Cay" Wittenberg shares her views and revisits her experience as a student in the Leadership and Human Resource Development (LHRD) program and how it impacted her professional and personal life.
“This degree gives someone the opportunity of wanting to work with people; to give them an even stronger satisfaction for what they do and how they do it.”
For Cay, pursuing her Master’s degree enhanced her ability to think effectively. In her professional life, she expressed the degree provided her the strong ability to look at a situation, analyze it, develop theories, find credited research for support, and then teach those who need the knowledge. In her personal life, the degree endowed her the confidence and moral satisfaction to use what she learned to help the local workforce and also to know that she is making a difference in a substantial amount of the community.
“I believe leadership and development, in general, can happen naturally, but the offering of guidance and support can make it happen that much better, faster, and more impactful.”
Businesses are extremely impactful to the communities and the overall economy, however not all are the same. Through her education, Cay states, she finds that the people that make up businesses are all unique and are the true powerhouse to an organization.
Currently, Cay is a consultant for leadership and organizational development at Success Labs in Baton Rouge, LA. She has directly applied everything learned in the graduate program to her work; including leadership development, executive coaching, organizational development, workforce planning, and succession planning.
Prior to earning her Master of Science in Human Resource Development, Cay received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Kansas studying Community Health with a minor in Psychology. She states she loves behavioral and social sciences and has always had a passion for health. “After being in the Bayou State for 4 years”, she states, “I’ve immersed myself into the LA culture as much as I can and love being a part of the community in various events and functions going on.”
The faculty of the School of Leadership and Human Resource Development is extremely proud of each of our graduates’ great accomplishments. As we move forward into the future, providing the necessary tools to our students, like Cay, will allow them to create a positive difference in people, organizations, and communities globally; to become change-makers in all aspects of life.
