University Lab School senior earns Samsung American Legion scholarship


University Laboratory School senior Matthew Johnson has been awarded the Samsung American Legion scholarship, valued at $1,000, at Boys State for the State of Louisiana. 

Johnson is now eligible to earn a scholarship valued at $2,000 in the American Legion's Boys State National Scholarship competition. According to the American Legion website, the scholarships are to be used for undergraduate studies and are awarded to juniors who participate in Boys State or Girls State and are direct descendants (or legally adopted children) of wartime veterans eligible for American Legion membership.

Each applicant is selected according to his or her involvement in school and community activities, academic record and financial need.
