Louisiana Desktop Well Reference 2001 Central Gulf Region PTTC TIPS & SUGGESTIONS 1. There are 2 executable files for the Desktop program. The well legends are reversed depending on the version of Windows used. An oil well for example is a green dot but in some instances it is a white dot in a green box. Unfortunately, this bug has been elusive to fix in that it is inconsistant. Use the version that works for your particular installation. Typically it has been: - Louisiana Desktop Well Reference for 98/Me/NT4/XP - LDWR 2 for 95/2000 This doesn't affect the program functionality just the graphical display. 2. We recommend you run the tutorial to familiarize yourself with the interface. To run the tutorial double click the icon in the Louisiana Desktop Well Reference folder. If that fails the tutorial is located in the DATA\TUTORIAL directory as TUTORIAL.PDF. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view this file. Acrobat Reader may be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com. 3. When restoring the LDWR program from a minimized screen the color palette window opens. To close the window just double click on the upper left corner of the window. 4. The LDWR has incorporated a twenty (20) second delay for the print box to print reports and well summaries. After 20 sections a Windows selection box will pop up. You must answer yes or no. If yes the report prints directly to your LPT1 port. If no you can only print the report by minimizing LDWR going to your temporary directory and either rename, for later use, or print the file for the report you are working on. 5. In the main screen close selection boxes that are not being used to save memory. 6. After long periods of use program performance may slow. If this occurs restart Windows to clear out temporarily saved files. Rebooting the computer may be required in some instances. 7. Pressing the "Reset" button should clear most errors. If reset fails to clear the problem you may have to restart Windows, when Windows reopens clear extra programs from memory, (such as virus checkers, system monitors, etc.) and go directly into the Louisiana Desktop Well Reference before using any other program. 8. If the well selection box is blank. Press "Reset" to clear the variables. Use the "P" button to select the parish the wells are in and go to the well in question. Run a well summary report. If there are no LUW codes present then the selection should be blank. If a LUW code is present try a production report again. The selections should be available. 9. Selecting information by state is very slow, even on fast computers. Always work at the parish level if possible. 10. Use the maximun screen resolution possible. The display was designed with 800x600 resolution. Using a higher resolution allows for a larger viewing area. 11. If the MOPROD.DBF file is erased from the TEMP directory just recopy it from the CD. The charting function will not work without this file. 12. Read the accompanying ESRI Microsoft Write files for additional information on Arcview, including tips on troubleshooting. They are located in the directory [home]\PROGRAM\ETC. Or visit their web site at http://www.esri.com. 13.
