Connection Storymaker Workshop


Please join marine scientist-turned-filmmaker Randy Olson and actor Brian Palermo for their public talk on how to communicate your work in an effective way on Friday, February 7th at 2pm in the LSU School of the Coast and Environment Rotunda Auditorium, Nicholson Extension. Those who attend the Friday talk may participate in one of the three workshops offered Sat., Feb. 8 and Sun., Feb. 9. To register for the free workshop, email

Randy Olson received his Ph.D. in marine biology from Harvard University. He is the author of Don’t Be Such a Scientist: Talking Substance in an Age of Style and Connection: Hollywood Storytelling Meets Critical Thinking. He has also written and directed two independent films, “Sizzle” and “Flock of Dodos: The Evolution-Intelligent Design Circus.” He has presented over 200 workshops on communicating science to the general public at universities and scientific meetings including the 2013 American Geophysical Union (AGU) fall meeting and the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB). Brian Palermo is a veteran improvisation actor and instructor with the Groundlings Comedy Theater in Hollywood. He has appeared on the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and in feature films “The Social Network” and “Daddy Day Care.” He is a native of New Orleans.
