Established in August 2010, Diversity and Inclusion helps ensure that the E. J. Ourso College reflects the diversity of its many students and that all individuals feel welcome, equal, and equitable.
Consistent with LSU's Flagship Agenda, the E. J. We emphasize the recruitment and retention of minority students and faculty and provide a workplace free of intolerance or discrimination. This is not only the right thing to do; it improves the quality of the working, learning, and living environment.
Diversity as a concept focuses on a broader set of qualities than race and gender; it is multicultural. In the context of the workplace, valuing diversity means creating a workplace that respects and includes differences, recognizes the unique contributions that individuals with many types of differences can make, and creates a work environment that maximizes the potential of all employees.
A diverse workforce that feels comfortable communicating varying points of view provides a larger pool of ideas and experiences. Employees from diverse backgrounds bring individual talents and experiences in suggesting ideas, often leading to better solutions. Many organizations refer to this as diversity of thought.
For our students, it is critically important that the E. J. Ourso College provides a diverse and inclusive environment to better prepare them for the workplace. Learning how to thrive and collaborate with others of different perspectives is good for business.
Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Award
Enhancing diversity at LSU is a core institutional value. LSU received the 2017 HEED Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine – the oldest and largest diversity focused publication in higher education making it the sixth year in a row that the university was named a HEED Award recipient.
