Students Travel to Europe over Winter Break
March 25, 2019
BATON ROUGE – Fourteen students across majors studied abroad in Europe this past winter break. Joni Catanzaro, a senior instructor in the Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems, served as the faculty host for the trips led through International Business Seminars.
The Winter Europe Seminar is perfect for undergraduate and graduate students who are looking to gain international experience while setting themselves apart in the workforce after graduation. Students learn about the culture, customs and international business practices in a variety of European cities. Most importantly, students will observe how business practices differentiate between each country visited and the United States.
Among the destinations were London, Paris, Reims, Heidelberg, Frankfurt, The Hague and Amsterdam included in the Winter Europe Seminar. Students toured the Chelsea Football Club in London and learned about the European Union and Global Sourcing. In Paris, they learned about the business history of the Hard Rock Café and toured the cellar, vineyard and headquarters of Champagne Lanson. Students got a behind-the-scenes tour of the Frankfurt airport and visited with executives from Grant Thorton, KPMG and The Hague in Amsterdam.
But these students did not spend their time solely in the classroom. They went to Paddington Station, the Tower of London and Parliament while in London; called upon the Baton Rouge Pigalle pub in Paris as well as toured the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame; went ice skating in Germany; and experienced the Amsterdam Light Festival, the Heineken brewery and Anne Frank’s house.
The list of students who attended are as follows:
- Taylor Benoit – New Orleans, Louisiana
- Dean Campbell – Baton Rouge, Louisiana
- Katelyn Christie – Houston, Texas
- Rebecca Davis – New Orleans, Louisiana
- Catherine Dolce – New Orleans, Louisiana
- Courtlenn Goudeau – Baton Rouge, Louisiana

- Skyler Ockman – Gretna, Louisiana
- Noah Remmert – Austin, Texas

- Calyx Verret – Plaquemine, Louisiana
Management junior Melissa Scheve said of the trip, “As a Human Resources student, it is always fascinating for me to meet new people and see how they work in their roles as well as alongside others. Traveling abroad with other students let me see that every person, from whatever corner of the world they are from, each hold a unique gift that can be offered to any group to improve it and it is our job as a team to try to bring that special gift out in people. Watching all of these strangers work together to figure out how to navigate these new places was an incredible sight to see and be a part of! It was truly humbling and empowering to experience this well-oiled machine firsthand.”
