Baton Rouge – Laura D. Wiley, PhD, CPA, assistant department chair and senior instructor in the Department of Accounting, has co-authored Auditing: A Practical Approach with Data Analytics with Raymond Johnson, an Oregon CPA who teaches auditing concepts and practices and financial statement analysis at Portland State University. According to the publisher’s website, the textbook “prepares students for the rapidly changing demands of the auditing profession by meeting the data-driven requirements of today’s workforce,” adding “this course uses a practical, case-based approach to help students develop professional judgment, think critically about the auditing process, and develop the decision-making skills necessary to perform a real-world audit.”

Wiley’s experience in the professional world of accounting played a part in her decision to publish this textbook. “My career began in audit with a Big Four accounting firm, then I transitioned into academics and have taught the audit course for over 10 years,” she said. “The audit field is experiencing rapid technological change and I felt now was the right time to work on this project and bring a fresh perspective to the current textbook market.”

Tommy Phillips, department chair and professor in the Department of Accounting, values contributions to the industry and LSU’s corporate partnerships. “Laura, like all of our faculty, stays busy with her devotion to the accounting academic profession,” Phillips said. “Her completion of this auditing textbook manifests her depth of knowledge in her field and brings a modern text to accounting that includes the latest additions to auditing such as data analytics. We are proud that she has now accomplished the feat of becoming a textbook author.”
