June 21, 2017
BATON ROUGE – Accounting major Victoria L. Ranzino of Lafayette, LA, has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB). The PCAOB Scholarship Program awards funds to outstanding undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in an accounting degree program at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. The Program is merit-based and awarded to select students who demonstrate interest and aptitude in accounting and auditing while maintaining and demonstrating high ethical standards.
“I am excited, humbled and honored to receive this award,” said Ranzino. “It is encouraging to receive this recognition and makes me proud to be part of the accounting profession.” Ranzino was nominated for the scholarship by two of her professors, Jackie Moffitt and Laura Wiley. “I was surprised by the nomination and appreciate their support,” said Ranzino, quickly adding that she appreciated the support and encouragement from all of her teachers while at LSU.
Ranzino graduated in May 2017 with a BS in Accounting and has a summer internship with Deloitte & Touche LLP in New Orleans under the direction of Patrick Brandau, Partner in Deloitte Audit. She plans to continue her studies by pursuing a Master of Accountancy at LSU. “I would not have had these opportunities if not for LSU,” said Ranzino. “It makes me proud to be a Tiger.”
The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board is a nonprofit corporation established by Congress to oversee the audits of public companies in order to protect the interests of investors and further the public interest in the preparation of informative, accurate and independent audit reports. The PCAOB also oversees the audits of broker-dealers, including compliance reports filed under federal securities laws, to promote investor protection.
