NEW YORK - DLA Piper announced Fenimore Fisher has been named the firm’s chief diversity and inclusion officer, effective July 15.
Fisher is currently vice provost and chief diversity officer at Johns Hopkins University. In this role, he led diversity and inclusion initiatives for the university; served as the primary steward of the Roadmap on Diversity and Inclusion, which describes the university’s diversity-related priorities and commitments; set up a framework for coordination and collaboration of school-level diversity and inclusion activities; and served as ex-officio co-chair of Johns Hopkins’ Diversity Leadership Council.
Before joining Johns Hopkins, Fenimore worked for the City of New York, leading the design and implementation of strategies to position the city as a global leader in innovative and inclusive workplace practices. He provided guidance and measurement to more than 80 mayoral and non-mayoral agencies with a focus on aligning agency operations with the city’s key diversity and inclusion performance indicators to enhance the work experience of more than 300,000 employees.
"Making diversity and inclusion a top priority of the firm has benefited our clients, our lawyers and staff, and our firm culture as a whole," said Roger Meltzer, DLA Piper's global co-chairman and co-chairman for the Americas. “As we continue to strategically grow our presence across the country and around the world, it is vitally important that we continue to think broadly when it comes to hiring, retention and promotion. Fenimore is a forward-thinking leader who brings a focus on transparency and a deep understanding of metrics and analytics, and he is ideally suited to usher our diversity and inclusion efforts into the next stage of the firm’s evolution.”
“I look forward to working with the lawyers and staff of DLA Piper in ways that are meaningful and sustainable,” said Fisher. “My entire professional life has been dedicated to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion strategies in ways that are measurable. This is an opportunity I never imagined I’d have. I’m exhilarated to work with Roger and the entire leadership team, to impact not only the firm but also the legal profession.”
Fisher also served as vice president of diversity and employment analysis for Walmart as well as the executive director of the Rainbow/PUSH – Wall Street Project. He is an advisory board member of the National Multicultural Women’s Conference, an affiliate of Working Mother Media, a past member of the National Leadership Council for the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), and a past member of the Corporate Advisory Council for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF). He is the recipient of numerous diversity and inclusion awards, including the Collaborative Leadership Interagency Award from the New York City Police Department and the Multicultural Leadership Award from the National Diversity Council.
Fisher earned his J.D. from Ohio Northern University, his B.S. from Louisiana State University and a labor mediation certification from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University.
