Phillips, Students Honored at LSU PAI Luncheon

BATON ROUGE - The LSU Public Administration Institute recently celebrated Courtney Phillips as its 2019 Master of Public Administration Alumnus of the Year.

Courtney N. Phillips is the Executive Commissioner for the Texas Health and Human Services system. Texas HHS consists of two agencies, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Department of State Health Services. The agencies directly serve millions of Texans each year and are focused on improving the lives of all citizens of the Lone Star State. She holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a Master of Public Administration from Louisiana State University.

During her remarks, Phillips encouraged students to remember how and where it all started and know how to accommodate for shortcomings. She also told those in attendance how she has used her MPA degree throughout her career.

The PAI Honors Luncheon also featured recognition of the graduating class and two individual honors.

Nicole Wesley, an MPA student from Baton Rouge, LA, received the David B. Johnson Student Achievement Award. The award recognizes a student who displays outstanding academic, community and professional service in the MPA program.

Ashley Coates Delrie, also an MPA student from Baton Rouge, LA, was given the Astrid Merget Award. This award honors a student’s commitment to public service and citizenship, as well as the memory of Merget and her contributions to the LSU MPA program.
