Marketing Department demonstrates Eye-Tracking and Facial Emotion Recognition Software at LSU Day
April 29, 2019
BATON ROUGE - LSU students, faculty and staff represented the university during LSU Day at the Louisiana State Capitol April 16, 2019. The event provided an opportunity to remind the Louisiana Legislature, as well as visitors to the Capitol, how LSU benefits our state.
Associate professors, Andrew Kuo and Dan Rice, demonstrated the technology in development from the LSU Behavioral Research Lab. The Behavioral Research Lab has positioned the E. J. Ourso College of Business as a worldwide leader in consumer research, drawing top faculty, students and practitioners to LSU. As technology evolves at an ever-increasing pace, it is vital that Louisiana continues to invest in the long term growth and capabilities of the lab to establish the lab as a community resource that will aid in projects both on and off campus, to promote economic growth and better business practices.
The demonstration at LSU day promoted eye tracking and facial emotion recognition software. Emotions play a significant role in the decisions that consumers make every day. Traditional methods of measuring consumer emotions are subjective, imprecise and sometimes invasive. New technology in the form of eye-tracking and computer-assisted facial emotion analysis allows researchers to capture emotions and attention with greater accuracy across a variety of consumption contexts.
The technology in the LSU Behavioral Research Lab has been used to study a wide variety of topics, including branding, decision making and advertising effectiveness. Data collected through the lab has led to scholarly publications in top academic journals as well as partnerships with local businesses in the Baton Rouge community.
