BATON ROUGE – Makayla McManus, president of the LSU MBA Association, talks to us about the organization, opportunities for students and her favorite LSU tradition.
Hometown: Baton Rouge, LA
Program: LSU Flores MBA – Specializing in Human Resources
Undergraduate Degree: BS Management with concentration in Human Resources from LSU
Year: 2nd Year MBA – Graduating May 2019
How did you become involved with the MBA Association?
I have been an active participant since joining the program. I also served as a liaison between the first and second year classes as a first year.
How does your organization serve students? Why should students get involved?
MBAA allows students to do life together outside of the classroom. It provides an opportunity to build relationship that will last far beyond completion of the Flores MBA Program.
Do you have advice for incoming students?
Embrace everything the program has to offer, from case competitions, to intramurals, to social events. Say “no” as little as possible by stepping out of your comfort zone, it will build so much character and make you a better-rounded person.
What are you looking forward to this year?
The MBAA Gala benefiting the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition. It’s a great feeling to know that we as students can use our networks to contribute to something bigger than ourselves.
Favorite spot on campus or favorite LSU tradition?
My favorite spot on campus is the Music and Dramatic Arts building because it allowed me to pursue my passions outside of the Business College.
How will this leadership opportunity shape your career?
Becoming MBAA president has furthered my ability to manage people with such different personalities. As I step into a career in HR, this will benefit me tremendously.
