BATON ROUGE – Samira Fallah, a PhD candidate in the Rucks Department of Management in Louisiana State University’s E. J. Ourso College of Business, co-authored a paper published by the European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR).

“OR models in urban service facility location: A critical review of applications and future developments” was written by Fallah; Reza Zanjirani Farahani, Kingston University; Rubén Ruiz, Universitat Politècnica de València; Sara Hosseini, Kingston University and Nasrin Asgari, University of Roehampton.

The authors focused on facility location models. Since the 1970s the trend has been shifting from manufacturing to service industries. The paper follows this trend with a particular focus on service facilities that are operating in “urban” areas. The team was interested in the “service” or tertiary sector since in relation to enterprise turn-over and gross domestic product (GDP) of nations, service industries are playing an increasingly more important role than their manufacturing counterparts, especially in developed countries. The full text of the paper is available online.

“Samira’s work is exemplary; we are very proud,” said Professor Thomas Greckhamer. “The European Journal of Operational Research is a ‘4-level’ journal in the CABS Academic Journal list. Its impact factor of 3.4 places the journal in the top 12 journals in the Web of Science category Operations Research & Management Science. Being published in EJOR is a significant accomplishment, especially for a PhD candidate. In the Rucks Department of Management, we strive to prepare our students for successful careers in research and academia.”

EJOR publishes high quality, original papers that contribute to the methodology of operational research (OR) and to the practice of decision making. EJOR contains the following types of papers: invited reviews, innovative applications of OR, theory and methodology papers and short communications.
