Economics Students & Faculty Receive Department Annual Awards

BATON ROUGE - On Thursday, December 6, 2018 the LSU Department of Economics recognized students and faculty at their annual awards banquet.

Olevia Sharbaugh was awarded the 2018 Outstanding Economics and ITF Major Award in Macroeconomics. Sharbaugh is a double major in International Trade and Finance and Spanish and graduates with the class of 2019. She is also a member of the business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi and was admitted to Omnicron Delta Epsilon for high achievement in the field of economics.

Mohammed Alshehri was awarded the 2018 Outstanding Economics and ITF Major Award in Microeconomics. He is an Economics major and graduates with the class of 2019.

Michael Cobar was awarded the 2018 Outstanding Economics and ITF Major Award in Econometrics.

Peter Gingeleskie was awarded the 2018 Excellence in Teaching Award for a Teaching Assistant. Gingeleskie earned his BS from Seton Hall University and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Economics at LSU.

Richard Stahl was awarded the 2018 Excellence in Teaching Award for an Instructor. He earned his BS in Applied Economics from Ithaca College, his MA and Ph.D. in Economics from Binghamton University (SUNY). He also serves as an undergraduate advisor for the LSU Department of Economics and a senior instructor for the LSU Energy Program and has worked for LSU since 2001.

Louis-Philippe Beland was awarded the 2018 Excellence in Teaching Award for an Undergraduate Instructor. He earned his BBA in Applied Economics from HEC Montreal, his MA in Economics from the University of British Columbia, and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Montreal. His teaching interests are microeconomics and public economics and he has worked for LSU since 2014.
