BATON ROUGE – LSU CFP Board-Registered Program students Madison Nixon, Catherine Traylor and Daniel Wendt recently attended TD Ameritrade Institutional’s annual advisor conference, the 2015 National LINC. In total, 44 financial planning students from 22 colleges and universities attended.

At the conference, Nixon, Wendt and Traylor had the opportunity to connect with peers, network with some of the country’s top investment advisors and learn about the latest trends alongside 3,300 advisors and other industry professionals.

"We’re leading the charge in helping young financial planning professionals get their start,” said Kate Healy, managing director at TD Ameritrade Institutional. “Our student program is designed to help the RIA industry grow and thrive by expanding the ranks of talented new advisors entering the business. And for the students, it’s a wonderful opportunity to engage with advisors and generate networking opportunities that can lead to mentorships, internships and jobs later on.”

In addition to seeing inspiring presentations by former U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Nixon, Wendt and Traylor participated in breakout sessions and networking events designed specifically for them. The students were also highly visible, taking the stage to introduce speakers and participating in many sessions. Traylor, in particular, participated in a panel session during the conference that was focused on internship programs.

“Attending the TD Ameritrade LINC conference was a fantastic opportunity, especially for a student,” Wendt said. “Not only did I gain valuable insight into the RIA field, but I was able to network with students, professionals, and TD Ameritrade executives. This conference is definitely one that I plan on going back to as a professional.”

Nixon found a renewed sense of purpose after attending this event.

“This experience gave me a fresh perspective on the financial planning industry,” Nixon said. “The RIAs I met with showed a true passion for the profession and reminded me why I began studying in this particular field.”
