Currently Ms. Espinoza-Gala is part of a research team working on a project entitled: “Bringing High-Reliability Safety Culture Decisions into Focus: Training with Interactive Fuzzy Cognitive Mapping”. The project is funded by The National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine and is joint efforts by Portland State University and Louisiana State University to investigating High Reliability Organizations in the Gulf of Mexico during Covid 19 and the downturn in the industry and intended to develop a training platform to train industry practitioners.
Ms. Espinoza-Gala served on steering committee for The National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine held Houston in January 2018: The Human Factors of Process Safety and Worker Empowerment in the Offshore Oil Industry. She also served on Deepwater Horizon Study Group-Center for Catastrophic Risk Management 2010-11.
Besides being a life-time practitioner contributing to the safety of offshore energy activities, Ms. Espinoza-Gala also publishes in academic journal. She is the first author of a recently published peer reviewed paper by the journal of ACS Chemical Health & Safety under the title of Listening to the Well, Listening to Each Other, and Listening to the Silence—New Safety Lessons from Deepwater Horizon.
