Welcome

Dean Richard White head shot

Richard White Jr., Dean

In the E. J. Ourso College of Business, we define success not by the number of students who graduate and find jobs, but rather by the number of students who graduate and launch rewarding careers that fit their passions and abilities.

With this goal in mind, I championed the creation of our new Office of Business Student Success (OBSS). This office, conveniently located on the second floor of the Business Education Complex Rotunda, centralizes core student support services like academic counseling, career coaching, diversity and inclusion programs, and international studies. We have staffed OBSS with some of the college’s most capable and caring professionals. In its first academic year, OBSS has seen a steady stream of students seeking professional development advice and academic counseling.

Thanks to OBSS, we help students sharpen their competitive edges to stand out in a crowded job market. There are ways you can be part of the OBSS success story:

While opening OBSS was a major feat, it is not the only the only source of pride for the E. J. Ourso College. I want to recognize some of our recent achievements.

We launched a new Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship degree with the first class starting last fall. The program continues to grow and will produce its first two graduates in May. This paired-degree is just an option for students from across the campus who are looking to incorporate entrepreneurial thinking into their careers. An entrepreneurship minor, electives, and a fellows program are also available.

The Master of Science in Finance and Master of Public Administration degrees continue to be ranked in the top 50 programs in the nation.

Joni Shreve, an instructor in the Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems, received the 2018 SAS Distinguished Professor award.

Not only did we host the 2018 SEC MBA Case Competition, our students claimed first place.

In March, we welcomed educators and professionals to campus for the Third Annual SEC Business School Diversity Conference.

This spring we inducted new members of the E. J. Ourso College of Business Hall of Distinction. The accomplishments of Claire L. Cagnolatti and Maurice "Skip" J. Robichaux could fill volumes. They are excellent additions to this distinguished group.

While this news is not limited to Ourso College graduates, I should mention a new PayScale salary report that ranks LSU as best in Louisiana and a leader in the SEC for return on investment, an important measure for students. On average, an LSU graduate’s starting salary is $12,000 above the national collegiate average.

As you can see, we have a lot to be proud of. Thanks for all you do to support the college. Geaux Tigers!
