Education & Research
There are so many learning opportunities for children at the Botanic Gardens! Any time the gardens are open, you can walk the trails in the Burden woods and take advantage of the learning stations along the way. See our Events page to see when activities such as "Story Time" and "Children's Gardening Series" will be taking place. For teachers and parents, we offer resource materials and lesson plans that can be used in the garden areas. Teachers can also schedule structured field trips for students in Pre-K through 8th grade. Learn from some of the most respected gardeners, scientists, professors, and leaders in the nursery field at our "Reflections" lectures on the first Monday of each month and at the regular meetings of the many gardening organizations that call the Botanic Gardens their home. On your own, feel free to walk our limestone trails through the Burden woods with learning centers along the way. Click here for more.
The Botanic Gardens at Burden is a unique part of the LSU AgCenter in that it conducts both research and outreach on horticultural, agronomic, coastal and wetlands plants as part of the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station and Extension Service. In line with our Mission, our research explores the subjects of Food and Fiber and Ornamental, Turf and Coastal horticulture.
The LSU AgCenter provides numerous publications on matters of gardening and other environmental interests.
