Mary Hoy recognized by the Louisiana Sweet Potato Association (LSPA)
Mary Hoy was presented with the LSPA Distinguished Service Award at their annual meeting in Alexandria on January 10, 2018. Mary began work in the sweetpotato plant pathology program in 1991 and quickly became the expert on producing virus-tested sweetpotatoes and maintaining them in tissue culture. She has been the heart and soul of the tissue culture operation as well as supporting all the other sweetpotato disease research. The LSU AgCenter virus-tested seed program would never have gotten off the ground nor maintained its output for nearly 20 years were it not for the technical skills, devotion to serving the industry, and loving thoughtful support of Mary Hoy. As you see the fields of sweetpotatoes across Louisiana, realize that each and every plant is derived from the expert tissue culture skill of Mary Hoy.
