Agritourism Workshops

March, 2017

This is the second wave of agritourism workshops organized by LSU AgCenter funded through Southern Extension Risk Management Education (SERME) center and USDA. This workshop series focuses on Safety and Emergency Management. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to walk through agritourism enterprises with a safety specialist, review safety plans and practices as well as emergency preparedness and safety record keeping. Attendees will also receive pointers on how to use social media to advertise their business and information on how to become a certified agritourism operator.

Agritourism Workshops

November, 2016

Agriculture and tourism are among the top three industries in Louisiana, making agritourism a natural industry for the state. Farmers and ranchers involved in agritourism activities are exposed to business risk, financial and legal liabilities. Workshop participants learned about financial and legal risks; best management practices; the steps to becoming a certified agritourism operation; risk diversification strategies; and the need for liability insurance.

Agricultural Lenders Workshops

October, 2016

Louisiana net farm income is likely to decline in 2016. Keeping farm operations economically viable during adverse market conditions requires producers to make well-informed farm management decisions. This workshop advised agricultural lenders on how to help producers make those decisions. It discussed the economic risks, critical input costs, production and marketing alternatives, beneficial farm and conservation programs and valuable information resources.
