Studio 151 Facelift

March 28, 2016

Part of CxC’s services towards LSU students includes three fully equipped Communication studios around campus.

The Art and Design Studio is located in the Design building. The Engineering studio is located in Patrick F. Taylor Hall as part of the Chevron Center for Engineering Education. And the largest of the three, Studio 151, is located in 151 Coates Hall in the center of campus.

Studio 151 encompasses a Science Communications studio, Humanities and Social Sciences Communications studio, a writing support center, and general resources for students from across campus. These resources and services for LSU students are all completely free to use with an LSU ID. The purpose of the studio is for students to get out-of-classroom assistance with any kind of project they might have.

There are several ways to get feedback, such as writing support, and help with speaking projects and multimedia assignments. The studio offers writing coaching for all LSU majors. Students can check out all kinds of equipment for project use including: tripods, flip cameras, Go Pros, Mini-DV camcorders and much more.  Students can utilize a professional audio recording sound booth, as well as film all sorts of presentations and speeches and play them back for practice. Staff in 151 can offer support with digital portfolios, help with Final Cut Pro and iMovie projects, as well as HD screening capabilities in a theater set up as well as a comprehensive Film Collection.

Last semester, Studio 151 received a complete facelift, and it’s looking better than ever. The facelift included new signage, including decals on glass and a new laser cut sign for the studio and the science studio. The studio is also newly painted, there’s new seating encouraging more collaboration between students, and the orientation of the space is reconfigured. Additional workspace has been added as well as a new tutoring space.

Over the past several months, students utilizing the studio have reported the changes have been beneficial, and 151 staff and student mentors are excited to continue to bring communication support services to LSU students.

As we continue towards the end of the semester and the beginning of finals preparation, make sure to utilize Studio 151 and other CxC studios across campus. It’s a good idea for you to start knocking out those end of semester projects, and what better way to get the grade than creating quality work with the help of CxC resources!
