New Program Created to Recognize Undergraduate Students for Significant Community Engagement

The Center for Community Engagement, Learning & Leadership (CCELL), in conjunction with Volunteer LSU is establishing the Engaged Citizen Program. This program recognizes the accomplishments of undergraduate students who engage significantly with their communities to address critical community needs. This recognition will also be noted on the student’s transcript and in the commencement program. Please contact ccell@lsu.edu for more information.

Engagement is deeply embedded in the university’s strategic plan. LSU is nationally known for its commitment to civic engagement. The university has made the national President’s Community Service Honor Roll every year since its inception in 2006. LSU was also among the first institutions to apply for and receive the elective engagement designation from the Carnegie Foundation in 2008, and this designation was renewed for the ten year period, 2015-2025. The Consortium on Civic Engagement, established in 2011, has forged relationships among the various engagement units across campuses and has advised administration on issues with regard to engagement. Engagement impacts all constituencies of LSU, including faculty, staff, and community partners, with whom we engage to improve the quality of life for citizens in Louisiana and across the world.
