The Laboratory Safety section provides the basic safety information relevant to all research labs. The mission of LSU is to conduct research and it is the goal of LSU that that research be conducted in a safe manner. Personnel must be aware of the numerous hazards of conducting cutting edge research. Safety Data Sheets are a primary reference of potential hazards. Research should be conducted planned and thoughtful manner with is supported by the use of Standard Operating procedures and the analysis of potential risks using the Laboratory Assessment Tool. Fume hoods are the primary control devices for collecting vapors to prevent worker exposure. Personnel must be trained in the basics of laboratory research. There are Laws and Regulations that impacts research labs and in turn compliance audits are used to verify compliances. Finally, when finished with the research, laboratories must be closed in a proper manner.
