Severe weather update for horse and pet owners

BATON ROUGE - Here's some information for horse  and owners who are in flooded or flood-prone areas.

 

HORSE OWNERS

 

Louisiana horse/livestock owners in need of disaster rescue/evacuation assistance:

1) Lamar Dixon Expo Center has space for horses needing to be evacuated.

  1. Go to the office, if it's locked there is a number posted to the door to call . It may cost $25.00 a day per stall $7.00 shavings; but costs may be covered or reimbursed due to this being a declared emergency.
  2. Number to Lamar Dixion: 225-621-1700
  3. All are allowed just no outside shavings.

 

2) Check your surrounding arenas for more assistance

  • Port Allen is almost full
  • Amite is under water, and Hwy 16 is closed.

 

3) Colonial Stables in Ascension Parish has 12 open stalls – Please call ahead in case it’s full; contact 225-268-7998.

 

4) BREC Farr Park in Baton Rouge (225-769-7805) is a horse hotel and usually has space; Negative Coggins required (call LSU VTH at 225-578-9500 if needing Coggins Testing for evacuation purposes).

 

5) Clinton area: The Clinton Arena will open its gates for emergency livestock that need to be moved to higher ground. There are holding pens and an arena that isn’t covered (for cattle); there are panels to make holding pens. Please call ahead: 225 936 8934

Officials with the East Baton Rouge Parish Council on Aging is delivering meals to seniors who are unable to leave their homes. They are also delivering sand bags to seniors who are unable to leave their home. They are asking for volunteer help. The office is located at 5790 Florida Blvd.
